Market Report - Asians Eye Dollar Value

WONG: Asian investors eyed a sharp rise in the U.S. dollar on Tuesday. The greenback gained as worries about a sharp global slowdown hurt many Asian currencies. Gold prices fell to their lowest level this year as investors sold most commodities. Japanese inflation data spread some gloom. Wholesale prices hit 7.1 percent in the world's number two economy. A 27 year high on the back of high commodity costs, such as the price of oil. In China signs that inflation may be peaking with consumer inflation tapping a 10-month low. Falling food prices are helping to curtail inflation in China but economists warn high production costs could push inflation up again soon. The Beijing Olympics have put the brighter side of China's potential in the spotlight but some expect companies to suffer once the games are over. Telecom giant China Mobile fell sharply in Hong Kong trade with investors fretting about the company's earnings growth. And in Shanghai the stock index fell to a 19-month low on concerns about the outlook for company profits.

The Sound Of Market

This work reads stock information (in Hong Kong market) on the internet in real time, and transform this data to music tunes. The installation mimic the stock terminal computer of bank or stock broker, the customer or anyone could enter the stock code through the keypad device(which looks like a keyboard but just has the number pad part), and the stock information will be displayed accordingly. This work is very much the same but it doesnt return information, but convert the ups and downs of the stock price into music. The chart is also displayed, but unlike conventional financial presentation, more colors are used. The palette is generated by the computer to accompany the music. The rhythm of the music is quite random and unpredictable, just like the stock market does. Users can also switch to another stock by entering a new stock code, provide that its available in the market. The software use the data in two year time, this is to make sure there is no obviously pause in the music.

Then the technical analyst would crunch the numbers and make a decision about the stock in question. Sure this approach, being based on probabilities derived from historical data, is much less subjective than typical fundamental analysis techniques, but it was a very time consuming process meaning only a limited number of stocks could be analyzed in a reasonable period of time.
